Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Twitch VOD Downloader

What is Clipsey?

Clipsey is a super simple Twitch VOD Downloader that makes saving videos easy as pie! Just grab the URL of a public archived Twitch VOD, paste it into the box above, and smash that 'Download Video' button. Pick a quality and Clipsey will start saving the VOD directly to your computer. Seriously, it couldn't be easier!

Is Clipsey free to use?

Yep, totally free! You don't have to pay a single penny to use Clipsey. We're on a mission to build the best Twitch VOD Downloader out there, and keeping it free forever is part of that commitment. No sneaky paywalls, no premium tiers, no subscriptions. Just free downloads, always!

Help! I'm getting an error that says "Error: That is not a valid Twitch URL"?

This usually happens when you're using the wrong kind of URL. Clipsey needs a direct Twitch watch link that looks like this:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1234567890

Take a quick look at the URL you pasted and make sure there aren't any typos or extra spaces hanging around. Also, double check that the archived VOD is still public and available on Twitch. That should fix it!

Help! I'm getting an error that says "Error: There was a problem getting the video"?

Ugh, this error can be frustrating! Here are a few things that might be causing it:

First, check if your internet connection is stable. Sometimes a spotty connection can mess things up.

Second, try turning off any ad blockers or browser extensions you have running. They can sometimes block our downloader by accident.

Third, we might be getting slammed with traffic right now. Give it a few minutes and try again.

If you've tried all that and it's still not working, Twitch might have changed something on their end. Shoot us a message so we can jump on it and get things fixed ASAP!

Are there other ways to download Twitch VODs?

Sure, there are other ways, but honestly they're a huge pain! Saving a long Twitch broadcast manually can be a huge pain, especially when you want a specific available quality.

Clipsey keeps the flow simple: paste the public VOD link, choose a quality, and save it from one page.

Trust me, using Clipsey is way easier. No technical skills needed, just paste and download!

What format are the downloaded videos?

Everything you download from Clipsey comes in MP4 format. That's the universal video format that plays on basically any device or media player you can think of. No weird file types, no conversion needed. Just download it and you're good to go!

Why do people want to download Twitch VODs?

People save Twitch VODs for all sorts of reasons! You might want to rewatch a public broadcast offline, keep a personal archive of your own stream, or save footage you have permission to use in a creative project.

Whatever your reason might be, Clipsey makes it quick and painless to save public Twitch VODs straight to your device.

Does Clipsey collect personal data?

Your privacy matters to us! The only thing we temporarily store is your IP address, and that's purely for security reasons. It helps us prevent abuse and keep the service running smoothly for everyone.

Beyond the limited operational data needed to keep the service secure and reliable, Clipsey does not ask for a Twitch login or account details.

What is Twitch?

Twitch is a live-streaming platform where creators broadcast gaming, music, sports, creative work, and much more.

Many creators make past broadcasts available as public VODs so viewers can watch streams after they end.

Clipsey works with those public archived VOD pages. Live streams and videos that require a login or special access are not supported.

What video quality/resolutions are available?

Choose from the qualities Twitch makes available for that public VOD, including source quality when it is offered. If your first choice is unavailable, pick another option and try again.

Can I download videos on mobile/iPhone/Android?

For long VODs, use the current desktop version of Chrome or Edge so Clipsey can write the video directly to a file as it downloads. Safari, Firefox, iPhone, Android, and other mobile browsers are not currently promised the same large-file support.

Is there a download limit per day?

There is no paid daily plan, but fair-use and security limits protect Clipsey from automated abuse. Download one VOD at a time and wait a little before retrying if the service asks you to slow down.

How long does it take to download a video?

Clipsey starts preparing a public VOD quickly, but the full download time depends on the VOD length, chosen quality, your connection, and Twitch's delivery speed. A multi-hour source-quality VOD can take a while, so keep the tab open until it finishes.

Can I download private Twitch VODs?

Sorry, but no. We can only download videos that are public and available to everyone on Twitch. If a video has been set to private or taken down, we can't access it. Think of it this way: if you can't watch it without logging in or special permissions, Clipsey can't download it either. We only work with publicly viewable content.

Can I download multiple videos at once?

Not right now. Clipsey downloads one public Twitch VOD at a time so each long file can be saved reliably. Finish or cancel the current download before starting another one.

Is it legal to download Twitch VODs?

Downloading stuff for your own personal enjoyment? Generally that's okay. But here's where you need to be careful: if you're thinking about using those videos for commercial purposes or re-uploading them somewhere else as your own, that's when copyright issues can bite you. Always respect the people who made the content and give proper credit. Bottom line? Keep downloads for personal use and don't redistribute other people's work without asking first!

Is Clipsey safe to use?

Clipsey does not ask you to install software, extensions, or a Twitch login. It saves the selected public VOD as an MP4 file through your browser. As always, keep your browser updated and only use the official clipsey.com site.

Do I need to create an account to use Clipsey?

Nope, not at all! No account, no sign-up, no email address required. Just show up, paste your URL, and download away. We built Clipsey to be as friction-free as possible. Making you jump through hoops to create an account would just waste your time. So we skipped all that nonsense. Just grab what you need and bounce!

How do I find the URL of a Twitch VOD?

Super simple! First, find the video you want on Twitch. Then just look at your browser's address bar at the top and copy that entire URL. It should look something like https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1234567890. Once you've got it copied, paste it into Clipsey and hit that download button. Done! Oh, and if you're on mobile, just tap the share button on the video and you can copy the link from there.

Can creators see who downloaded their videos?

Clipsey does not send creators a download notification. Do not assume any internet activity is completely anonymous, though, and only save content you have the right or permission to use.
